Do I have Obamacare?

There is no Obamacare health insurance plan. Obamacare is a nickname for the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010 which was also shortened to the Affordable Care Act (ACA). Qualified health plans sold in the US are regulated by the ACA. In North Carolina, consumers have the option to purchase a qualified health plan directly through an insurance company or through the Health Insurance Marketplace. The primary difference in these purchasing methods in determining whether you are eligible for a subsidy which helps pay your premium. Your eligibility can only be determined by shopping for a plan through the Health Insurance Marketplace. Health plans purchased through the Marketplace are still private insurance plans such as BlueCross NC, Cigna, Bright Health, or Ambetter depending on what county you reside in.
