In North Carolina, consumers have the option to purchase a qualified health plan directly through an insurance company or through the Health Insurance Marketplace. The primary difference in these purchasing methods in determining whether you are eligible for a subsidy which helps pay your premium. Your eligibility can only be determined by shopping for a plan through the Health Insurance Marketplace. Health plans purchased through the Marketplace are still private insurance plans such as BlueCross NC, Cigna, Bright Health, or Ambetter depending on what county you reside in.
